Midland Port
When Lyttelton Port was constrained for space, it decided it needed an 11 hectare inland port for receiving and storing containers close to State Highway 1.
Early Contractor Involvement enabled Fulton Hogan to demonstrate its diversity and capabilities, and the client decided to expand on its initial scope. As well as 70,000 square metres of pavement, works included drainage, electricity and communications services, floodlighting, and a rail siding and crossings to connect to Lyttelton Port by rail.
Our technical team developed a suitable PortPhalt® design for a product already widely used for work at Australian ports. During months of earthworks, the client, Engineers and Fulton Hogan collaborated to ensure PortPhalt’s® successful launch in New Zealand.
The project team liaised daily with the client to ensure the critical programme of works would meet the deadline. It was delivered on time to budget and met safety targets. The client was so pleased with the quality and timeliness of the project, it has resulted in ongoing construction and maintenance work at the Port of Lyttelton.
